· Born in the 1750s in York, Pennsylvania to Michael Dromgoole & Margaret Love Dromgoole
· Had an older brother, John, and younger, James.
· Educated (wrote many letters on behalf of Indians as well as to government leaders)
· Participated in Dunmore’s War and Revolutionary War (War of the Rebellion)
· Married multiple times and had seven children
· Traveled among and traded with Cherokee
· Served as ambassador and translator in American and Indian affairs
· Owned land in several states
· Had minor brushes with the law
Fiction (plausible)
· Trustworthy (Indian chiefs trusted and accepted him as did most of government leaders he dealt with)
· Courageous (traveled repeatedly into Indian Treaty Lands among some tribes that might not accept his presence)
· Adventurous (always on the go, heading into the wilderness)
· Not a family man (seemed to leave child rearing to mothers of his children as he was often away)
· Had a temper (a few brushes with the law involving fighting)
· Reasonably good looking and possibly charming (had four wives)
· Good horse rider (reported as having fastest horse in Virginia)
The question is, what was he really like? Good guy? Hero or scoundrel? You’ll need to read the book to make up your own mind.
